war memories 1.5 – a growing obsession out of nowhere
There are those who get so obsessed with the wars that they forget how to live outside of them. These people are as good as dead, war casualties – their lives end when the killing ends. Only rarely do they manage to return to humanity – they manage to become fathers, brothers, sons and workers once again. Social units, no longer Military units. The country has been saved, the Cause has won, but that’s just the easy part. Living through it all and managing it – that’s the truly difficult part. Let us not mourn for the dead – for they were the lucky ones. We should, rather, mourn for the living dead, those who killed their souls that we might keep ours. Jesuses, all of them, for it takes a great deal of bravery to come back to life.
